Serving Children with Dignity and Love Since 2017
The Kid’s Closet was founded in 2017 by Jennifer Pruett, who saw a need in her community and felt called to meet it.
I’ve always enjoyed thrift shopping and I seem to be really good at it. I also always enjoyed doing laundry. I believe God gives us our gifts in areas that we enjoy. He’s a good God. He doesn’t want us bored lol! I was trying to figure out how to use my gifts to glorify God when I decided to start by buying school clothes for just a couple of kids.
What started as a small effort to provide clothes to a few children quickly turned into something much larger. As donations continued to pour in, Jennifer kept giving—and The Kid’s Closet kept growing.
A Calling, Not Just a Cause
Jennifer’s heart for God and for children has been at the center of The Kid’s Closet since day one. She believes every child deserves to feel comfortable, accepted, and cared for.
With the support of her husband John, she began this ministry out of love and obedience, never imagining it would serve hundreds of children throughout Montgomery County.
Building the Team
As The Kid’s Closet grew, so did the need for helping hands. Fortunately, those hands showed up—right on time.
Lisa Tyler
About three years in, while Jennifer was recovering from surgery, Lisa Tyler stepped in to help sort donations. In one conversation, Jennifer mentioned how overwhelmed she felt by the increasing number of orders. Lisa stepped up to take on part of the work—and she’s been a dedicated team member ever since, handling her sizes with love and care.
Danielle Starcher
Danielle Starcher began helping during the second year by doing laundry. For months, she quietly bagged clothes, took them home, washed and folded them, then brought them back—an incredible gift behind the scenes. Eventually, she took over our teen sizes and also created the Google document we now use to organize orders.
Darsey Gardner
Our newest team member, Darsey Gardner, joined in the summer of 2025 and now oversees the 10–16 size range. Darsey brings a bright attitude, an encouraging smile, and a strong commitment to our mission. She’s already become an invaluable part of our team.
More Than Just Clothes
The Kid’s Closet is about more than clothing—it’s about dignity, love, and community. Every piece of clothing we give is a reminder to a child that they are seen, valued, and cared for.
We’re so grateful for our volunteers, donors, and partners who make this work possible.
