WHAT WE DO
The Kid’s Closet is a small ministry based in Montgomery County, Indiana. We give new and gently used clothing to any child in Montgomery County who has a need. It is our desire to make sure all children have the clothing they need to feel comfortable and confident as they go about their day. When we receive a request for a child, that child receives a bag of new or gently used clothing based on their specific needs and wants. On the application form the parent or guardian is able to list things like the child’s favorite characters, colors, styles, etc. We make every effort to give the children their requests when we have those items in our stock.
In each bag there is between 7-10 outfits. Along with (depending on what was checked on their application) shoes, new socks, new underwear, pajamas, a jacket, dresses for the girls, swimwear, water shoes, flip flops, sandals. hair accessories and each child receives a book.
When I, Jennifer opened the ministry I felt it was supposed to be different than others. Many places give children used clothes I want to give them so much more. I want them to feel like the person who made their bag of clothes truly cares about them. I want them to remember the way it made them feel when they received their bag of clothes. I hope over the years they come to feel like someone out there truly cares about them. Maybe somehow we might just make a big difference in their lives with ripple effects.
Meet our Team
Jennifer Pruett
Hi! I am Jennifer and I am the founder of The Kid's Closet. I am also the owner of HappyTown Day Care, a Tier II licensed home day care. With the help of three employees I am blessed to watch 20 children each day. I opened my day care in 1996. I have been married to John Pruett for 32 years and between us we have four children and 12 grandchildren. We attend Rock Point Christian Church. I run the Kid's Closet after work, on the weekends and sometimes at quiet time. My day care assistant Elyse Wendall helps me out a lot. I am handicapped even though you can't tell by looking at me. I suffer from a rare form of paralysis that comes and goes in different levels. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and a bad back along with fibromyalgia. So at times I require a lot of help. I couldn't do this without the help of Elyse, my husband John and my son Jacob Pruett and of course my amazing team! I believe God put the idea of the Kid’s Closet on my heart and that he had knew exactly what he was doing!
Hi! I’m Lisa and I fill the orders for preemie-3T clothing. I’m commonly known as Miss Lisa, because I’ve been teaching preschool for Crawfordsville Schools for over 20 years. I’ve been married to my husband Chad for 26 years, and we have two grown children. We are active members of New Hope Christian Church.
I started by donating items to Jennifer, then volunteering to help her after she had surgery. I finally decided to jump in and become more involved. I love being able to help others when they need it the most. Plus, the baby clothes are SO cute!

Darsey Gardner
My name is Darsey Gardner and I’m excited to begin helping with the Kid’s Closet in our older sizes! I have been a long time watcher and when I saw the post about requesting help, I just knew that I should apply!
I’ve been married to my husband, Dustin, for nearly nine years. We have two boys, ages six and one. I work as the Education Coordinator at Fuzzy Bear Preschool, where I teach and manage curriculum, ministry, field trips, and more. I also serve as the Fundraising Chair for Cub Scout Pack 909. Dustin and I attend Ladoga Baptist and Darlington United Methodist Churches, where he leads worship, and we’re active in the Ladoga Community Center. As a family, we love going to the Crawfordsville Farmers Market every Saturday. Life is busy, but I’m excited to grow our community involvement and share joy along the way.
